Girls' Generation's Yoona walked to the Max Mara 2027 spring/summer show in Milan on September 24 as the house's first Korean "Friend of the Brand," and the next day Italian jewelry house DAMIANI named LE SSERAFIM's Sakura its new "Friend of the House" in a release citing her "sophisticated style, stage presence, and global influence." According to allkpop, the Max Mara title made Yoona the first Korean artist to hold it.
Two houses, one week, one new word: friend. Friend of the Brand at Max Mara, Friend of the House at DAMIANI. The friendship tier is the new rung between "fan" and "paid ambassador," and it exists because it sounds exclusive, personal, and uncommercial. It is a title that never appears in the "ad" column. You don't sign a contract, you just keep showing up.
Notice the dialects. DAMIANI calls itself a house, because jewelry works that way. You don't walk into a house, you get invited in, and the invitation is a press release using the word "seamless." Max Mara calls itself a brand, because clothing works that way. Brands do things. Same friendship, different furniture: one is a dinner party, one is a club with a keycard.
The ladder only goes up from there. Friend of the brand, friend of the house, probably "family" by the next season. At some point the key fob gets your name on it, and you pose in a suit at a photo wall, which is exactly the look the week produced. Vogue Singapore has the full Milan front row if you want to count how many of these friends a single fashion week can mint. The friendship is the product. The friend is the SKU.
YOUR TURN: Friend of the brand or friend of the house. Which title is more suspicious, and what's the next rung?
