On Thursday at the ADL State of the Arts reception in New York, Selma Blair announced she is making a documentary about antisemitism called "Hineni," to say what she "couldn't say two years ago," per Deadline. The two-year gap runs from her February 2024 apology and the exit of her CAA and Narrative PR reps.

The erasure was the development period. Two years ago her comment got a response, and within a day the brands were gone, the agency was gone, the lawyer was gone, the publicist was gone, the phone stopped ringing, by her own count. Then two years of quiet. Then a Thursday reception, a doc greenlight, and the line that does the work: "The opposite of erased is making something."

The machine never stopped. It just changed channels. The ADL posted her full remarks, which include the smartest sentence in the whole return: the last time she let cameras in, it was about her body, this time it's about her people. Same format, different franchise. The self-doc is a series now, and the return episode just got its title card.

The "leaving the comment there" bit is the second smartest. Leave the comment there, and the comment stays there, a bookmark to the scandal that greenlit the sequel. The apology economy does not ask you to take the words back. It asks you to star in the next thing. Two years of quiet, and the phone rang again with a camera crew behind it.

YOUR TURN: Is the comeback doc a product or a penance, and can the PR machine tell the difference?
