Fox dropped four new teasers for the Baywatch reboot on October 2, and they feature gymnast-turned-influencer Livvy Dunne guest-starring as a character called Junior Lifeguard Grace, per Deadline. The series is scheduled to launch on Fox for the 2026-27 season.
Baywatch ran for eleven years on a simple premise: real lifeguards, real beach, real red trunks. The reboot has upgraded the premise to the Junior Lifeguard, a character whose entire job description is to seat a gymnast with a content pipeline into a red suit. That's not casting. That's a seat cushion.
And look at the demotions. David Chokachi, who played a lifeguard for a living in the '90s, is now "recurring." Erika Eleniak, Michael Bergin, and Kelly Packard are "guest stars." The men who spent 1995 running toward a camera are now RECURRING. Meanwhile Stephen Amell has inherited the Buchannon name, because the franchise's legacy is now a genealogy and the Hoff's Mitch has a captain-son.
The teasers aren't for the show. They're for Livvy's feed. Four clips of a woman in a red suit that are fifteen seconds of "look at me," so the influencer can post it, the followers can count it, and Fox gets its metric. The show is the SKU. The teaser is the product.
YOUR TURN: If a character exists to seat an influencer, who's the star: the actor, or the content?
