Sean "Diddy" Combs has been ordered to pay NBCUniversal $477,700.50 in attorneys' fees after his $100 million defamation suit over "Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy" failed, per TMZ and Page Six.
The lawsuit was filed in February 2025 and argued that the documentary caused him "severe reputational and economic harm." The complaint took issue, among other things, with the film calling Combs a "monster" and "an embodiment of Lucifer." The judge's answer, in dollars and cents: $477,700.50. NBCUniversal had asked for $990,292, and the court cut more than half, finding "substantial portions" of the billing "excessive and unreasonable" while ruling the hourly rates reasonable. The fee order has a cent in it, which tells you somebody was billing by the minute.
The spin is coming from the other side of the same ledger. Combs' lawyer Juda Engelmayer called the ruling "only half the story" and pointed out that the court trimmed NBC's request by more than $512,000. Then the irony, in his own words: the arguments against the excessive legal bills "were made by the same firm that recently withdrew from representing Sean amid its own billing dispute with him." That firm, Sher Tremonte, moved in September to leave the separate $50 million NewsNation suit because Combs was "in substantial arrears" on his own legal bills. A man is litigating a $512,000 discount while his own lawyers have stopped waiting for payment.
The rest of the ledger is a schedule. A 50-month sentence at FCI Fort Dix, a release date of January 21, 2028, and a recent return to solitary after reports of a "pampered" life behind bars. The $477,700.50 is not the last invoice. It is the first one with a due date.
YOUR TURN: Does "only half the story" now come with a billing dispute?
