According to Deadline, Kylie Jenner is set to headline and executive produce Bachelorette Weekend (working title), a Hulu thriller drama where the bride is murdered in the pool and her closest friends are all suspects. The project is in final negotiations for a straight-to-series order.

The dead bride is described in the announcement as the "North Star of the series," and the whole plot traces the events that turned her pool into a crime scene. A corpse as a North Star. The pitch for the lead role reads like an insurance document.

The paperwork is even better than the premise. The project is based on an unpublished book, developed through a screenwriter's IP packaging company, and it got greenlit the way family businesses work. A spec script lands on Kim Kardashian's desk through her first-look deal, Kim decides it would be a great starring vehicle for her sister, passes it to Kylie, and then the script goes back through Kim's first-look deal at 20th Television to Hulu. Which preemptively buys it and pulls it off the market. The first-look machine pointed at the same family four times in one pipeline. A Hulu rep declined to comment, which is to say: the machine does not comment.

Jenner is "following in the career path of her older sister," per Deadline's phrasing, a resume of reality TV, a cosmetics empire, and one buzzy cameo in A24's The Moment. The announcement landed two days before The Kardashians returns to Hulu on October 8. That's not a coincidence, that's a cross-promo. The streamer is not buying a thriller. It's buying a retention loop with a body in it.

YOUR TURN: A bachelorette murder mystery where the bride is also the logo. New genre, or just a content calendar with a plot?
