According to Deadline, producers confirmed Sacha Baron Cohen will star in Quentin Tarantino's first stage play, "The Popinjay Cavalier," opening at London's Phoenix Theatre on March 18, 2027. Tickets went on sale the morning after the announcement, with priority at 9 a.m. BST and the general public at noon.
A stage play with a general sale time. That is the arena playbook: the priority window, the noon public drop, the calendar invite, the ticketing app. The West End just got a pop-tour product page, and the product is 1830s Europe.
Read the credits. Sonia Friedman Productions, the house that gave the world Cursed Child, plus Sony Pictures Entertainment, a film studio producing a play. The joint statement: "audiences are in for a treat." The marketing line arrived before the cast list, because the cast list is one person and the press release is everyone.
The official site calls it a "strictly limited season." The blurb says "swashbuckling comedy," a genre that has been a press release since the 1970s. Two men who have spent 30 years turning everything into events are now turning a theater into an event, and the theater is in March.
YOUR TURN: Is a 12 p.m. BST ticket drop a tradition, or a product launch?
