According to Variety, Kourtney Kardashian revealed on the season 8 premiere of Hulu's "The Kardashians" that Jennifer Lawrence asked Kim for her contact info and emailed her an apology after calling her "more annoying than ever." Lawrence said it on a Vanity Fair lie detector interview promoting "Die My Love."
That's the whole food chain in one story. An actress gets put through a lie detector press test, a marketing format built to make a romance film feel like an interrogation, and says "more annoying than ever" about a woman she has known for a decade. Nobody gets fired. The polygraph proves nothing, the clip is everything, and Lawrence knows it. On a podcast earlier this year she admitted her press quotes are "insane" and "they carry." Then she does more press. Of course she does. The clip pays.
Then the apology email. Not a call, not a text, an email, because emails are a format, and formats leave a record, and records become clips. Lawrence wrote "I just feel like I'm one of your sisters." Congrats, you have now auditioned for a reality family and you got the part. You cannot apologize to a reality family without becoming a character in the reality family. That email is the key to the confessional.
And the confessional, the only stage in Hollywood where a text to your mom is national content. Kris Jenner: I was out with Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone. Kourtney's reply, preserved forever: "fuck that bitch Jennifer Lawrence." Then the rewatch, where Kourtney admits the original clip "wasn't that bad," meaning the war lasted exactly as long as the season premiere took to air. Everyone wins. Lawrence gets to be funny, Kourtney gets to be feral, Hulu gets a premiere clip, and the polygraph, which proved nothing, gets to watch from the corner like a dog that didn't get the treat.
YOUR TURN: "I just feel like I'm one of your sisters." Apology, or hostage situation?
